Father’s Day is a commemorative day in which the influence and importance of the father within the family is celebrated.

This celebration was born in the United States out of the gratitude of a daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to her father, a veteran of the American Civil War named Henry Jackson Smart.

Henry’s wife died giving birth to their sixth child. He cared for and educated his children without help and with all the affection of the world, on a farm in the state of Washington. Over the years, Sonora realized that her father was someone to look up to so she proposed the date of birth of Henry, June 19, to commemorate Father’s Day.

Since then every third Sunday of June we celebrate  Father’s Day.

The celebration quickly spread to Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa as a way to honor fathers and recognize their role in raising and educating their children.

In Mexico, this celebration began to become widespread in schools around the 1950´s, although in subsequent years it became a consumer festivity sponsored by the big commercial chains. However, in many homes in our country, the celebration is still an occasion for family´s to gather and  to recognize fathers giving them gifts and pampering them.

The celebration of Father’s Day is a good opportunity to reinforce the values and behaviors of responsible parenthood as well as to express our gratitude for their love and effort, for the well-being of their families.

Thanks to all loving and caring fathers, who give the example of hard work every day, who teach us how to be good human beings, who give advice whenever we need it during all our life, who are there for us and support us at all times no matter what, thanks to those heroes without cape!

Dolphin Discovery wishes you a great Father’s Day in the company of your family.
