Gulf World Sea Turtle Rescue

So this past January our team at Gulf World did something very awesome and charitable.

As you may know January marked the month for record low temperatures in the state of Florida. No such temperatures were recorded since 2010. Sadly humans weren’t the only ones not used to this weather: the cold snap isn’t good for manatees and Sea Turtles.

Unfortunately the long lasting cold temperatures then caused a number of Sea Turtles to be frozen at sea. A cold-blooded reptile, Sea Turtles can’t regulate their own body temperature. So when water temperatures in the bays dropped to about 50 degrees, the turtles weren’t able to fend for themselves.

Gulf World Marine Institute and all of its generous staff collaborated in the search, rescue, transportation, rehabilitation and release of these marine turtles. Over 100 cold stunned sea turtles were rehabilitated successfully by our team at Gulf World Marine Park.

The veterinarians of Gulf World, with support from volunteers and donations from the community with things like towels, blankets, sheets and kiddie pools, managed to rehabilitate these turtles and successfully return them to sea once their conditions had improved.

Again another successful rescue from our crew, this time our team a Gulf World Marine Park stepped up got the job done!

Well done guys!
