5 Minute Guide to Dolphin Discovery’s New Normality

The new normality of Dolphin Discovery Isla Mujeres arrived with its reopening today, June 23. With their Dolphin Cares program, they promised a series of very rigorous health protocols to prevent contagion within their location, and the truth is that they did not exaggerate.

Beginning of the Day:

Let’s start with the first thing; when we arrived, we found a security filter in which they recorded our reserve number, names and took our temperature with a digital thermometer. This is indispensable to continue.

We arrive at the registration area, here are some marks that indicate us the healthy distance with other people in case of standing in line; we go through sanitizing mats to eliminate any virus that we could bring in the sole of the shoes. At the time of registration, the person in charge is behind a desk to ensure a safe distance equipped with a cover, gloves, and face masks. She checked our reservation and let us in.

When we had our bracelet, we were told to get on the boat with marks indicating a healthy distance. Upon entering, we were given some antibacterial gel, and inside the ship, there are suitable places to sit, separated to preserve the healthy range.

Arrival to the Park

Dolphin Discovery’s New Normality

When we arrived at the park, the sailors told us to go down by groups keeping the distance to avoid crowds on the pier. During the walk from the dock to the park, we were told at all times to keep the healthy distance; finally, when we reached the end of the pier, there was another sanitary filter in which we had to pass through a sanitizing mat, and we were provided with antibacterial gel.

Inside the park, we can find many disinfection points with antibacterial gel for the moment we need it. The first thing we did was to go for a locker key; when we arrive, we saw the person who delivers it was equipped with the sanitary measures giving us the key with a distance.

It’s Time to Swim with Dolphins.

We arrived at a point of orientation, here we were indicated to avoid contact with other people, and they made groups of a maximum of 7 people, this is assembled to ensure a healthy distance between swimmers.

A photographer equipped with the sanitary measures accompanied us on our way to the place where we swam with dolphins; she told us to go one by one to pick up our life vests which were disinfected minutes before. When we were ready, we get into the water.

When we were in the water, we meet the specialist in marine mammals who accompanied us in our experience, in our case we were with Juan; at all times he was equipped with the sanitary measures.

We lived the experience without any kind of problem, we finish, and we were asked to keep the distance to leave the vests separately. When we leave the dock, the photographer invites us to go and grab our face masks so we can go see the photos.

When we get to see our photos, they ask us to make a line because the spaces were limited.

We saw our photos, and we were helped by a photographer equipped with sanitary measures keeping his distance. Luckily we bought our picture online, so we didn’t have to make any line to pay or grab any money. They gave us a code and told us to download the pictures in their app “Dolphin Memories.”

Rest of the Day:

We went to the bar, where they have marks that indicate the healthy distance, and the bartender is regularly using antibacterial gel to grab the glasses and bottles.

We arrived at the pool and saw that all the lounge chairs were separated, and there was a lifeguard with a face mask; he is preventing that everyone keeps their distance inside the pool.

When we went to eat, we arrived at the buffet area, and a waiter equipped with sanitary measures explained to us that someone provided precisely like him would serve us the food we asked him for; the goal of this is that we didn’t touch the dishes and the spoons.

With our food, we looked for a table and saw that they were all separated to keep our distance.

It was time to leave. It was an excellent experience, and it felt terrific to be able to have contact with nature after so many months of being locked up. In addition to feeling safe all the time, it’s clearly not like before, but Dolphin Cares teaches us that it’s possible to have fun keeping our safety safe.

General Recommendations:

  • Bring your face mask; they will not force you to use it, but it is essential to use it in areas like the restaurant or the bar.
  • Buy your photos on their website; they have photo packages + experience. This way, you arrive with your pictures, and you don’t have to make any line to pay and grab money.
  • Go and enjoy your visit; at all times, you will feel safe thanks to the security protocols.
  • Remember that the park has just opened and at this moment, not many people go, take this opportunity to live a VIP experience.
