Like every year, October 18th marks World Nature Protection Day, one of the most paramount dates whose objective is to help raise awareness among all the people who inhabit this beautiful planet.

Since When is World Nature Protection Day Celebrated?

World Nature Protection Day has been commemorated since October 18, 1972, to maintain balance and promote sustainable development that is enabled in the Agenda of Commitments to 2030 of the United Nations, including:

  • The use of renewable energies.
  • Recycling and reuse of materials.
  • Development of eco-friendly constructions.
  • Reduce our carbon footprint.

How Did World Nature Protection Day Come About?

The commemoration of this day arose from the former president of Argentina, Juan Peron, who addressed a speech in Madrid, covering issues such as environmental pollution, the exploitation of renewable resources, and excessive population growth, for which the UN decided to include this day as World Nature Protection Day in the 2030 Agenda.

How Can You Help Protect Nature?

Regardless of whether it is World Nature Protection Day, you can participate in volunteer garbage collection and beach cleaning programs like the ones organized in Cancun, some of them organized by hotels and other government institutions such as PROFEPA or the SEMARNAT, which also carry out sanitation audits and inspections of all companies to ensure that they comply with official provisions regarding the care and preservation of the environment.

At Dolphin Discovery we have various orientation and environmental education programs that we teach to children in their schools, as well as visits to our Dolphin Habitats where they meet our friendly marine inhabitants and learn about their care and lifestyle.

The most important thing is always to prevent, so we recommend you carry out some of the following activities to reduce the negative impact on the environment:

  • Deposit your garbage in containers and do not throw it into the street, the sea, or beaches.
  • Recycle materials such as PET plastic bottles, aluminum and glass containers or cans that can be recycled and reused.
  • Attend beach cleanup volunteer programs.
  • Separate the garbage from your house.
  • Make compost with organic waste that can be used as fertilizer.
  • Avoid using disposable food containers.
  • Coordinate the cleaning of your street with your neighbors and friends.
  • Avoid using your car or sharing it with friends, colleagues, and colleagues to get to your school or work.
  • Use cardboard boxes or ecological bags to store your purchases at the supermarket.
  • If possible, make donations to foundations or institutions dedicated to the animal care.
  • Don’t mistreat stray animals.

Remember that planet Earth is the only home for Dolphins and other marine life such as Sea Lions and Manatees!
