The United Nations program for the environment (PNUMA for its acronym in Spanish) is the representative of the environment inside the United Nations’ system. The PNUMA also acts as a catalyst, promoter, educator, and facilitator to promote the rational use and the sustainable development of the worldwide environment.
Within the frame of the event and with the theme “The “free of plastic” life of the mammals”, Dolphin Discovery welcomed more than 50 members of the Mexican Caribbean Scouts in its Isla Mujeres habitat where 50 boys, girls, and teenagers from all the country could learn about the damage that plastics can do to the different marine species, they also learned about the importance of the Environmental Care Units for the conservation and protection of the marine mammals through an educational tour. They had the chance to meet our beloved dolphins, manatees, and sea lions.
“To Dolphin Discovery it is an honor to join such an important event of the UN. We are convinced that pollution is a world problem. The quantity of waste that ends up in the oceans is increasing more and more and it’s killing the marine fauna. We need to create awareness in people about the use of plastics and we believe that a good way to start is with the future generations: the children. For this reason, Dolphin Discovery carries out educational tours like the one that was given to the Scouts of the Mexican Caribbean so that they could learn about the mammals and learn how to take care of them since we cannot protect or love what we don’t know”
